Napster going DRM free
Posted Monday, January 7th, 2008 7:31 pm by Dave Moyer
They’d been talking about it, but it’s officially decided! Napster will begin to convert its entire downloads catalogue to completely Digital Rights Management FREE MP3s in the second quarter of this year. (For those not familiar, DRM basically restricts what you can and cannot do with audio/video files, and it varies in magnitude from the distributor/label.)
Even though they’ll continue to focus on their subscription service, the head executives at Napster are looking towards an increase in direct download sales from iPod and iPhone users that will come for music in the second quarter.
